After arriving in Sri Lanka, Emma made her way to our hotel, where she would pick up the tuk-tuk that would accompany her on one of the most memorable journeys of her life.
Like many travellers, it was her first time driving a tuk-tuk. Excited, curious, and perhaps a little nervous, Emma was about to discover why thousands of visitors choose to explore Sri Lanka by tuk tuk.
Starting with Confidence
Before beginning the journey, Emma met our team and was introduced to her tuk-tuk. Every guest receives two training sessions to ensure they feel comfortable and confident before hitting the road.
Guided Lesson
The day started with a guided lesson covering everything needed to travel safely around Sri Lanka. Together, we covered:
- Vehicle controls and dashboard functions
- Starting procedures and gear shifting
- Sri Lankan road rules and driving etiquette
- Speed recommendations and safe driving practices
- Road signs and lane discipline
- Fuel management and basic daily checks
- Important safety tips and emergency procedures
For many first-time drivers, this session provides the confidence needed to begin their adventure.
Practical Driving Lesson
After the theory session, it was time for Emma to get behind the wheel. Under the guidance of our instructors, she practised:
- Clutch control and smooth gear changes
- Turning and cornering
- Reversing and parking
- Driving in real traffic conditions
- Building confidence before setting off
What started with a few nervous smiles quickly turned into excitement as Emma became more comfortable with the vehicle.
The Adventure Begins
With the training completed and the bags packed, it was finally time. Keys in hand, route planned, and a sense of adventure ahead, Emma drove away from our hotel and officially began her journey across Sri Lanka.
Like thousands of travellers before her, she was now free to experience the island at her own pace — whether that meant chasing waterfalls, discovering hidden beaches, or simply enjoying the journey itself.
